RESTORATIONS

Amalgam Fillings:

A self-hardening mixture in varying percentages of tin, copper, mercury and silver  used to repair decayed teeth. It is very durable, resistant to leakage and wear. It is relatively inexpensive in comparison to other materials. This type of filling is used primarily in back teeth where it is not visible, since it is not as aesthetic as a composite white filling. Dental amalgam has been used for more than 100 years. It is the most thoroughly researched material in dentistry and deemed safe.

Composite Fillings:

A white tooth colored filling mixture of powered glass and plastic resin usually hardened by exposure to light. Generally used to fill smaller cavities. Not as durable as amalgam and look very nice. Most patients prefer this type of filling.

Crowns:

Commonly called caps are used to restore broken teeth or to replace very large failing fillings. Porcelain colored crowns are made to match the color of your existing teeth.
Crowns are also placed on most posterior teeth that have had root canal treatment.
Implants are restored with a crown at the final appointment.

Fixed Bridges:

Permanently cemented crowns to replace missing teeth.Bridges require a strong tooth on both sides of the missing tooth. Generally an implant is recommended for a single tooth replacement in lieu of a fixed bridge if the adjacent teeth are too nice to crown.

Implants: Are 'artifical' roots usually made of titanium that are surgically placed in the jaw. They are great for replacing missing teeth without compromising adjacent teeth. This is more time consuming but worth the wait.
